U. R. Holm

Hello! I’m U. R. Holm, owner of this site and an author of the indie kind.
This page will have the story about where I came from, where I am and where I am going.

But why?
Why would you want to read about some random person on the internet?
Honestly, I am aware that I’m not someone special. But I like reading about people and I love writing about them, at least the made up kind of people. 😅

Short version

Like I said, I am fully aware that you may not want to read about me, so here’s what you need to know.

  • I was born and raised in Sweden, so English is my second language
  • I mainly write in English
  • I have self published a novel named KEEP ME BREATHING
  • I have a YouTube channel where I talk about books, mostly indie published ones
  • I can not keep to one single hobby so I have many interests, both creative and non-creative ones.

I was born in a small Swedish village out in the middle of nowhere. Well, technically I was born in the nearest hospital which is in a fairly big city, but you get the point.
I usually describe my childhood surroundings as “Trees, trees, trees… Oh, Look! A rock.” 😅
Our closest neighbors were summer cabins and even people we knew struggled to find their way to our house. So I was lucky to grow up oblivious to the horrors of bad people. Though bears did show up at our doorstep more than once, even destroyed our pool once. (But elks will always be the scariest things on this planet, second to people)
This didn’t keep tiny me from wanting to play outside as soon as the sun was down. Starry skies and darkness were always my favorite. Along with an obsession with monsters but that’s for later.

Play pretend turned into making stories to fall asleep and I had original characters before I could even read.

The Inspiration

As a child, I was one of the earliest readers in my age group. This was mainly because my grandparents used to read with me a lot. I still remember the first book I learned to ‘read’. (I knew the words from memory but my tiny brain was convinced that I was actually reading it.)😅

As I grew older and my reading skills improved, my grandparents encouraged my reading by giving me books at every gift-giving holiday, as well as reading to me whenever I wanted. And letting me read along.

Apart from reading, my grandmother was also the first person who inspired me to do music. She played both the piano and mandolin, as well as a lute like guitar. I have both her piano and mandolin in my possession and her guitar is at my parents so I have access to it.

She was probably my favorite person, but she passed when I was around 12. I strongly believe that she’s the main reason that I am who I am today and that’s why I used her name as part of my penname. The “U” is for “Ulla”.
